A conversation with a fruit seller

A conversation with a fruit seller
A conversation between a tourist (Ashok) and a Kashmiri fruit seller. A few Kashmiri fruits, such as 'apples', 'cherries',  and 'stunted apples' are mentioned.

On every street corner in Kashmir, there are fruit sellers selling the fruits that are in season. They have very interesting 'peddlar's cries' which they use to attract customers.

Ashok: What is this fruit?

Fruit seller: These are stunted apples.

Ashok: Fine! Are these cherries?

Fruit seller: Yes, there are  cherries.

Ashok: How much are the stunted apples?

Fruit seller: The stunted apples are two rupees a kilo.

Ashok: How much are the  cherries?

Fruit seller: The  cherries are two rupees a kilo.

Ashok: Do you  have (any) apples?

Fruit seller: Yes, sir, in that basket. Three rupees a kilo.

Ashok: Are they any good?

Fruit seller: Yes, these are amber apples.

Ashok: How much are the pears?

Fruit seller: Pears are four for a rupee.

Ashok: Very well, give me one kilo of  apples, one kilo of  cherries, and eight pears.

Fruit seller: Do you have a basket?

Ashok: No, please give (them to me) in a paper sack.

Fruit seller: All right.

Fruit seller: The total bill is seven rupees.

Ashok: Here is a ten rupee bill.

Fruit seller: Here is your change.

Ashok: Thank you.
