Echoes of an Ethos

A Vyeth Television Presentation

"Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold" - W. B. Yeats

Kashmir - the gaping wound, oozing blood,

tears, narrating stories of war, strife,

communal hatred and the tragic exodus.

The concept of Kashmiryat assumes its real meaning in the film. The film reveals the real story of Kashmir. It is a cry of mourning, the wail of a widow, the dumb shriek of a motherless child.

The iron curtain has finally been lifted and a harsh reality lurks in front of us like a naked corpse. The film captures the socio-political reality of contemporary Kashmir and debates the causes of eradication of the ancient cultural heritage of this mini diverse civilisation. It also depicts Kashmir bereft of her original children - the Pandits.

The flight of migratory and wounded birds is the main motif in the film.

It is time someone narrated their tale. Hence, this film.

The film is based on the documented account of the actual events which occurred in Kashmir between 1989 and January 1998.

Directed and Edited by:
Ashwini Gadoo
