Mr. Girdhari Lal Kachroo

Date of passing: 2025-04-02

Girdhari Lal Kachroo

Sh. Girdhari Lal Kachroo (GK) passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Wednesday April 02, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who instilled strong values of hard work, resilience, and compassion in his family.

Born in Srinagar Kashmir, GK along with his late wife Kanta (Sapru) embarked on a mission to cross the world—from Kashmir to Scotland to New York, and finally to New Jersey, to build a life filled with love, knowledge, and resilience.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Jadavpur University India and two master’s degrees in engineering from the Brooklyn College of New York. Later he went on to become an environmental engineer at the New JerseyState Department of Environmental Protection.

His career spanned decades and enabled him to hold many unscrupulous companies violating Federal and New Jersey State environmental protection regulations accountable. In addition to his career aspirations, GK also owned and operated several boutique motel businesses and also became an avid stock trader in the later part of his life.

He is survived by his two children, Arun and Robert; daughter-in-law’s Vinita/Prerna; grandchildren Maya/Riya/Arianna; brother and sister-in-law Ashoke/Usha; sister Uma; nephews Vickie/Gautam, and nieces Sudha/Angela/Puja. His curiosity, strength, and kindness will continue to live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.

A 4pm memorial service will be held on Saturday April 5, 2025 at the Leroy P. Wooster Funeral Home in Atco, NJ.

Dear Arun and Robert,

Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of Girdhari Lal and Kanta ji. We were deeply saddened to hear this news, and our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. May God grant peace to the departed souls and give you strength to bear this great loss.

Girdhari Lal and me were classfellows at Jadavpur University and have many fond memories of our engineering college days together. It was our first time living outside of Kashmir, and we explored our new surroundings side by side, forming a bond that lasted a lifetime. We also lived in the neighbourhood here in Delhi while he started his carrier in India before shifting to U. K.  We always stayed in touch despite the physical distances and made a point to meet whenever possible.

Kanta ji was a wonderful person and the perfect companion to Girdhari Lal. Their passing, so close together, is deeply tragic—but perhaps not surprising, given the strength of their bond. Their memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing them.

May you find solace in their love and the legacy they leave behind.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Maharaj and Nirmal Kaul
