Stock Donation Policy

Purpose
The Kashmiri Overseas Association (KOA) encourages charitable gifts of publicly traded securities to support its mission and programs. This policy establishes clear guidelines for accepting, managing, and acknowledging stock donations in a consistent, transparent, and IRS-compliant manner.

 

Scope

This policy applies to all gifts of marketable securities made to KOA.

 

Types of Securities Accepted

 

KOA will accept gifts of:

• Publicly traded stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs)

 

KOA generally does not accept:

• Closely held or private company stock

• Restricted or encumbered securities

• Securities requiring special handling or approval

 

Any exception requires prior approval by the KOA Board or its designated Finance Committee.

 

Valuation

• KOA does not provide valuation advice to donors.

• For IRS purposes, donors determine the fair market value of the donated securities.

• KOA will acknowledge the gift based on the date the securities are received into KOA’s brokerage account.

 

Liquidation of Securities

• Unless otherwise approved by the Board, all donated securities will be liquidated promptly upon receipt.

• Proceeds will be deposited into KOA’s operating account or into a donor-designated fund, if applicable.

 

Gift Acceptance Date

• The official gift date is the date the securities are received into KOA’s brokerage account, not the date the donor initiates the transfer.

 

Acknowledgment and Receipts

• KOA will provide written acknowledgment in compliance with IRS regulations.

• Acknowledgments will describe the securities donated but will not assign a dollar value.

 

Confidentiality

All donor information will be handled confidentially in accordance with KOA policies.

Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed periodically by the KOA Board and updated as necessary.
