Spiritual Heritage Preservation

Kashmir Shaivism represents our unique and highly sophisticated philosophical contribution to world spirituality serving as the foundation of our practices and way of life.

Our ethnic and socio-cultural way of life is informed by KP’s spiritual heritage, mostly enshrined in Kashmir Shaivism, which reached its zenith in Kashmir in the 6th to 11th century. This spiritual heritage program is focused on making the profound wisdom of Kashmir Shaivism accessible and relevant to today's community members. In the 2024 webinar series were conducted to demonstrate the contemporary relevance of ancient wisdom. In these webinars, we have painted the picture of the Kashmir valley of our ancestors as the “Silicon Valley of the 10th century.”

Our Commitments:

  • Develop accessible educational materials about our spiritual heritage enshrined in Kashmir Shaivism

  • Demonstrate the contemporary relevance of our ancient wisdom

  • Create intergenerational dialogue about spiritual heritage based on its contemporary relevance

  • Document oral traditions, prayers, and ceremonies, and connect them to our spiritual heritage

Webinar Series:

One of the first programs that the KOA Heritage Committee kicked off in 2024 was a series of seven webinars on Kashmiri Shaivism. Our "Living Wisdom" webinar series continues with monthly sessions exploring how Kashmir Shaivism informs Kashmiri Pandit rituals, traditions, and daily life.

Spotlight on Preservation:

An intergenerational Initiative, we've established teams in four major demographic zones, pairing elders knowledgeable in our traditions with youth representatives who help adapt content for younger audiences.

  • Key thoughts around why the world found a profound meaning in the concepts, its history, evolution for centuries, the efforts for preserving it, and more

  • Interpretation of Lal Vakhs and in light of Kashmir Shaivism

  • Grow youth-driven “Everything Koshur” podcast and other platforms to share resources

  • Spread awareness across the zones using smaller “shorts” from existing recordings of webinars

  • Beyond 2025 and beyond, organize deep dives in topics such as Tattva-model, Upayas, and Bhairav Stotra

Get involved:

Our collaborative work continues building a repository of texts, translations, and explanatory materials that connect philosophical concepts to practical aspects of Kashmiri Pandit life. We depend on our community, subject experts, volunteers, learners, and people of all ages and interests.
